About the Coffee
Finca Bosque Lya is one of El Salvador's most celebrated coffee farms, gaining international recognition after winning first place in the Cup of Excellence in 2004. Located in western El Salvador near the Santa Ana Volcano, the 96-hectare farm sits within a lush rainforest environment that provides ideal conditions for producing exceptional coffee.
Established in 1932 and named after the founder's daughter, "Lya's Forest" is home to a rich ecosystem of native wildlife and vegetation. Coffee is grown under shade at elevations ranging from 1,473 to 1,650 metres above sea level, allowing cherries to mature slowly and develop greater sweetness and complexity.
The farm primarily cultivates Bourbon, alongside smaller lots of Pacamara, Caturra and Typica varieties, all contributing to the distinctive character that has made Bosque Lya one of the most respected names in Salvadoran coffee.
Processing
Only the ripest cherries are hand-picked before being transported to El Borbollon Mill for processing. Following depulping, the coffee undergoes fermentation for 13–15 hours before being carefully washed.
The coffee is then dried on patios for 8–10 days before resting and being hulled. Every lot is meticulously hand-sorted by a skilled team to ensure exceptional consistency and cup quality.
Sustainability & Quality
Bosque Lya combines traditional coffee production methods with a strong commitment to sustainability. Coffee pulp is composted and returned to the farm as organic fertiliser, while water used during processing is carefully recycled to minimise environmental impact.
This attention to both quality and environmental stewardship helps preserve the long-term health of the farm while producing coffees of outstanding character year after year.
