About the Producer

Puebla is one of Mexico’s most ecologically and culturally diverse states, though it often flies under the radar in the specialty coffee world. Nestled between Veracruz and Oaxaca, its coffee-growing zones range from 1,200 to over 1,600 meters above sea level, often in forested, volcanic terrain rich in biodiversity. Coffee in Puebla thrives under the care of smallholder producers whose knowledge is rooted in family, place, and persistence. Most farmers here manage just 1 to 3 hectares—modest parcels carved into the misty highlands of the Sierra Norte or Sierra Negra. Many of these producers belong to Indigenous communities where Nahuatl or Totonac is spoken as a first language, and the rhythms of agriculture are closely tied to the seasons and land stewardship passed down through generations. Coffee is grown alongside staples like corn, bananas, and citrus—not only as a form of income but as part of a biodiverse system that sustains both soil and family. Each harvest reflects a way of life shaped by resilience and craft, where the value of the work lies not only in the outcome but in the care behind it.
