More about the coffee, producer & region.

This fantastic coffee comes from the Simbu Province of Papua New Guinea. It has been roasted to showcase notes of chocolate, hazelnut, and toffee, creating a sweet, comforting cup with plenty of balance and body. Grown in the highlands of Papua New Guinea, it highlights the rich, approachable character that the country's coffees are known for. Produced through Kongo Coffee, the operation was established in 1990 and is founded and managed by Simbu local Jerry Kapka. Kongo works exclusively with smallholder farmers across the Simbu Province, purchasing coffee and collaborating closely with producing communities to continually improve quality. Through ongoing support, education, and strong relationships with growers, Kongo helps farmers achieve better prices while producing exceptional coffees that highlight the potential of the region.

About the Region

Located in the central highlands of Papua New Guinea, Simbu Province is known for its high elevations, fertile soils, and ideal coffee-growing climate. Coffee production is largely driven by smallholder farmers, with the region producing coffees known for their sweetness, balance, and rich flavour profiles.

About the Process

Coffee in PNG is mostly processed using the traditional wet method, with drying done with mechanical driers, raised beds or β€˜sails’. Sails are tarpaulins stretched out under the sun to provide clean space to dry the beans.
