More about the coffee, producer & region.
Mondul Estate has been producing exceptional coffee in northern Tanzania since 1931. Situated on the slopes of Mondul Mountain in the renowned Arusha coffee-growing region, this estate is known for cultivating high-quality Red Bourbon coffees. This naturally processed lot showcases the vibrant character of Tanzanian coffee, offering juicy notes of strawberry, nectarine and honey with a sweet, fruit-forward profile.
About the Region
Grown at 1,600–1,800 metres above sea level on Mondul Mountain in Tanzania's Arusha region, this coffee benefits from fertile volcanic soils and an ideal high-altitude climate. The slower ripening of the cherries allows complex sugars to develop, creating a beautifully sweet and expressive cup with layers of ripe fruit, floral notes and a smooth honey finish.
About the Process
Only fully ripe cherries are hand-picked before undergoing a second round of careful hand-sorting. The cherries are then dried whole on raised African beds for 12–14 days, where they are turned regularly to ensure even drying and prevent over-fermentation. Once the ideal moisture content is reached, the coffee is hulled, graded and hand-sorted before being prepared for export, allowing the natural process to develop its rich sweetness and vibrant fruit character.
