More about the coffee, producer & region.
The farm cultivates a range of highly recognised Arabica varieties, including Borbón, Pacas, Sampacho, and their proprietary ABM. Under the meticulous care of J.J. Borja Nathan, each variety is processed with proprietary methods to ensure exceptional quality, making Agua Caliente's coffee esteemed worldwide. The coffee is grown under the shade of native trees and Inga plants, which enrich the soil with nitrogen and create a conducive environment for local fauna. This biodiversity-friendly approach makes Agua Caliente a vital source of oxygen, water production, and a safe habitat for local wildlife. The farm employs eco-friendly methods to protect the plants against pests and diseases, using biological and cultural systems that preserve the environment.
About the Region
Finca Agua Caliente, located in the Apaneca-Lamatepec mountain range at an altitude of 1,200 meters above sea level, stands out as a leading producer of high-quality, globally renowned coffee varieties. The farm benefits from the region's mountainous terrain and volcanic soil, which provide optimal conditions for coffee cultivation. The natural environment, characterised by a cool climate and layers of shade, creates a perfect microclimate that enhances the development of top-quality coffee.
About the Process
The coffee beans are processed at the Agua Caliente mill and undergo careful pulping, fermenting, and washing with pure spring water before being sun or machine-dried. Each batch is meticulously sampled to ensure quality, and the beans are stored with precise humidity levels before export. The unique feature of thermal waters, sourced from hot springs due to volcanic activity, further exemplifies the farm's distinctive and environmentally harmonious practices.
